This 1985 Honda ATC 250ES Big Red is a clean and well-preserved example of Honda’s legendary utility three-wheeler. It was barn kept by its previous owners for 40 years at the same 40 acre spread at the same Arizona address. Its original owner, Marine Colonel Robert "Bob" Young, A good friend and neighbor of LT Colonel Jeff Cooper the founder of Gunsite. A world renown training academy in Paulden AZ. The property was then sold 2005 to its 2nd owner, Mr Anton and the 1985 250ES Big Red was part of the acquisition. It was acquired by the current owner in 2025 and has since received fresh mechanical attention. Power comes from an air-cooled 246cc four-stroke single paired with an automatic clutch and a five-speed dual-range transmission with reverse—one of the features that made the 250ES the most capable Big Red of its era.
Finished in classic Honda red over a black frame, the ATC features silver, white, and black Big Red graphics along with a black vinyl solo seat. Equipment includes front and rear cargo racks, a rear storage box, a headlight guard, serrated foot pegs, a skid plate, a ball hitch mount, trail lighting, and front and rear mudflaps. Cosmetic imperfections, including a minor wear on the bodywork, racks, and wheels, are shown in the gallery.
Silver 9" steel wheels wear Ohtsu H-Trak Pro/AM rear tires & a new replica Ohtsu H-Trak Pro/AM on the front. Braking handled by drums at the front wheel and rear axle. Suspension consists of a leading-axle telescopic fork with black gaiters up front and a Showa monoshock at the rear.
The chrome handlebar carries black grips, switchgear for the lights and ignition, brake levers, and a thumb throttle. A keyed ignition and indicator lights sit ahead of the rider on the upper triple clamp.
The air-cooled 246cc single was factory rated at 19 horsepower and is equipped with electronic ignition and electric start. An exhaust system tucked under the rear bodywork handles emissions. Recent service in October 2025 included a new battery, air filter, spark plug, new replica Ohtsu H-Trak Pro/AM and carburetor seals along with an oil change.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an enclosed driveshaft and the five-speed dual-range gearbox with reverse. Additional photos of the frame and components under the rear bodywork are available in the gallery.
